About Sports Management and Coaching
The Importance of Developing Sports as an Industry

Sport is a common language among people in the world. Developing sports as an industry not only promotes the sports culture but also enhances the social and economic benefits. It includes the business in retail, the development of sports venues, sponsorship, sports management and sports tourism, etc. In addition, it can help social cohesion which promotes the physical and mental health of the general public.

30 Minutes of Physical Activity Per Day

The World Health Organization (WHO) ranked physical inactivity as the fourth key risk factor that attributes to the global mortality rate, following hypertension, tobacco consumption and hyperglycemia as the three other factors that top the list. As such, the World Health Organization encourages everyone to engage in adequate physical activities. The Department of Health of Hong Kong’s Centre for Health Protection also encourages the public to engage in 30 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activities per day, for at least 5 days a week, as a way to improve the general public’s health and to reduce the risk of chronic diseases. The 30 minutes of physical activities can be performed once or divided into three 10-minute sessions.

Engaging in regular physical activities helps to improve our cardiopulmonary function and lower the risk of noncommunicable diseases, as well as reducing osteoporosis in women after menopause and improving psychological health.

The Importance of Fitness Coach and Sports Manager
While encouraging the general public to engage in higher levels of physical activities, the presence of a fitness coach is often needed for introducing them to a certain sport and assisting them to execute it. Therefore, a sports manager, a professional in sports management who also possesses the knowledge in fitness coaching is of great importance. A sports manager as such is capable of taking into account different aspects and eventually carrying out plans for sports projects in an efficient and strategic manner, as a way to facilitate the general public’s engagement in regular physical activities. Such sports managers should possess creativity, sensitivity to market demands and critical thinking abilities in order to make the best arrangements for the entire sports project.
