Programme Contents

A University of Sunderland Art and Design master's degree is an opportunity to develop your skills and push the boundaries of your creativity, while also establishing the foundations of a rewarding career.

Research is an extremely important part of the Sunderland School of Art and Design and it forms the content of this course. We use a variety of teaching and learning methods that include lectures, seminars, critiques, workshops and practical demonstrations supported by a range of guest speakers from diverse academic and industry backgrounds.

 

Programme Features

  • Sunderland has several specialized research groups such as in new media, photography, fine art, and design
  • Elements of research in Art and Design in Sunderland was judged to be 'world-leading' by the latest Research Excellence Framework. 
  • Industry Connection: Lectures are mainly conducted by representatives of different areas in the industry. Students could learn more about the trends in the industry. Design students will have access to industry-standard resources at HKCT and HK Productivity Council to use the fabrication resources
  • Professional Equipment: Lectures are mainly held at Mac Studio, students have an excellent study experience with the latest software
  • No Written Assessment: Students are assessed by professional practice and assignments
  • No Group Project Assignments: Individual assignments are designed, students can control their assignment progress flexibly.
  • One-on-One Teaching: Dissertation is conducted in one-on-one teaching, increasing the interaction between students and supervisors

General Requirements

  • Applicant and/or graduate from Sunderland partner are required to hold a degree (2:1 or above preferable) in a design-related discipline
  • Other qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the Operator and the Course Director of the home institution

AND

  • Satisfactory portfolio
  • Pass in English admission interview
     

English Requirement

  • IELTS 6.0 or above with no component lower than 5.5; or
  • TESOL score 550 or above; or
  • A pass in the University’s English Language Proficiency Test; or
  • Applicant from a programme that has been taught and assessed in English or Sunderland partner can have an English waiver on this basis; or
  • Other qualifications, which the University will consider on a case-by-case basis

 

Mature applicants can apply without the necessary qualification or appropriate degree.
Applicant must demonstrate suitable industry experience and appropriate portfolio of work.
Their application will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

  • HKCT former student who has completed a one year programme or above is eligible.
  • 5% of total tuition fee reduction (max $1,000) will be made in the last instalment of tuition fee payment.
