Professional Qualification

This programme is conferred by the University of Sunderland UK and has been accredited by the Society of Operations Engineers (SOE), UK and Institute of Measurement and Control (InstMC), UK and meets the required academic criteria for registration as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng).

 

Contents

This 18-month part-time top-up bachelor degree programme provides the academic pathway for higher diploma holders in relevant disciplines to obtain higher level of qualification.

  • Articulation Pathway: Students who have completed this programme and fulfilled designated requirements will be eligible to apply for the MSc Advanced Engineering Management*(Reg No.: 252929)
  • Intensive Programme Structure: Intensive and focused curriculum from Electrical Power to System Design, ensures comprehensive learning which allows students to balance work and study commitments
  • Globalization Vision: Opportunities to interact and collaborate with students and professionals from the UK, fostering global perspectives and cross-cultural understanding
  • Accreditation: Accredited by the Society of Operations Engineers and Institute of Measurement and Control on behalf of the Engineering Council as meeting the requirements for Further Learning for registration as an Incorporated Engineer. To hold accredited qualifications for IEng registration candidates must also hold an accredited Foundation degree or HND

 

Students are required to complete 5 modules in 4 semesters: 

  • Engineering Dynamics & Thermofluids 
  • Professional Engineering Management Techniques 
  • Manufacturing Systems Design 
  • Mechanical Design & Materials Selection 
  • Project 

Mode of Learning 
A full set of module materials is provided by the University of Sunderland, UK. Each module includes 45 face-to-face contact hours with local lecturers on weekday evenings and Saturdays. 
 
Assessment 
Modules are assessed in a combination of assignments, examinations and projects.

Entry Requirements
  • Applicants should be holders of Higher Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related disciplines awarded by local tertiary institutions or equivalent; and substantial relevant working experience; or
  • Applicants who do not satisfy the above entry requirements may be admitted at the discretion of the University through an interview and assessment by a committee.
  • Applicants should possess English Proficiency fulfilling the University's requirement.

2022 HKCT Outstanding Academic Performance Award

I'm Yin, a graduate of the BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering programme awarded by the University of Sunderland and operated by HKCT. It is my pleasure to share my study experience at HKCT with you.

It's never been easy for a full-time employee to take up the role of a part-time student. Thanks to the support of HKCT, I have managed my studying time well and finished the coursework required to achieve an outstanding study performance. The academic and supporting staff of HKCT usually proactively guide students to ensure each of us can closely follow the programme schedule. To help students to fulfill the requirements of attendance and graduation, we regularly receive friendly reminders from HKCT so as not to miss the class or coursework!
 
Guided by HKCT, I understand solid foundation and time management can help our study and future career development. I have obtained relevant engineering knowledge throughout this program and upgraded my report writing skills and technical capabilities. This significantly helps me monitor my projects better and results in satisfactory job performance.
 
Thanks to this programme, I am now a Master's student at the University of Hong Kong and a Full-member of the Society of Operations Engineers (SOE). I will pursue my path to become a Chartered Engineer. I strongly recommend this programme to those who want to attain a higher academic qualification in a shorter period or are eager to become a professional engineers in the future.

能夠獲得2022年度優秀論文獎實在是一個驚喜,也倍感幸運。雖然從事工程界不是為了得獎,但獲獎絕對是對學士生最大的鼓勵。獲獎的肯定,總是有許多的經驗可以分享,也有許多的人與事要感謝。以我個人而言,從新特蘭大學受到的啟發,得到很好的指導引,打下了堅實的學識根基,才能選擇個人的專題論文研究。我到新特蘭大學讀書之前,長期在工程維修相關行業任職,我的專題論文初期的研究主題與方向是由我的職業從中得出,適時提想出研究的重點方向與提升品質的建議。

很榮幸能夠成為新特蘭大學學士學位課程的學生。首先我要衷心多謝這兩年來指導過我的教授們不辭勞苦教導我們。在論文寫作方面,我的論文導師關教授,他擁有海量的知識,耐心,富有熱情和親切,給與我許多寶貴的建議與指導,使我能順利地完成論文,讓我在這段學習過程中獲益良多,藉此希望向他致以最深之謝意,他的提攜勉勵之情,畢生永難忘懷,特此送上我最大的感謝!

在此也感謝2020班的各位同學,他們的包容、扶持和幫助,陪我一起走過兩年充實又難忘的學習生活這是最寶貴的記憶,現在我們一齊畢業了及帶上四方帽,這是人生中光榮的時刻。
