8 National CPPCC Members from Higher Education Gathered at HKCT to Share on the “Two Sessions”

 
 

The “Sharing Session on the National Two Sessions 2024 by National CPPCC members from Higher Education” organised by HKCT Institute of Higher Education (HKCT), Hong Kong Baptist University and Hong Kong Higher Education Convergence, with the coordination of the Beijing - Hong Kong Academic Exchange Centre and the Hong Kong Hebei Friendship Association was held today (22 April) at the HKCT Jockey Club Undergraduate Campus. Over 200 participants attended both on-site and online to listen to the insights and experiences shared by various CPPCC members from higher education institutions from the National Two Sessions.

The sharing session was hosted by CHOW Man Kong, Legislative Council member and HKCT Governor and featured several CPPCC members from higher education institutions in Hong Kong, including CHAN Cheuk Hay, President of HKCT, TENG Jin Guang, President of Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Alexander WAI Ping Kong, President and Vice-Chancellor of Hong Kong Baptist University, John LEE Chi Kin, President of the Education University of Hong Kong, Charles NG Wang Wai, Vice-President of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), LAU Chi Pang, Associate-Vice President of Lingnan University, LAU Chak Sing, Dean of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of University of Hong Kong and WONG Kam Fai, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Engineering of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

In his welcome speech, Alexander WAI Ping Kong, President and Vice-Chancellor of Hong Kong Baptist University expressed that today's sharing session was not only for exchanging ideas and sharing experiences but also for building consensus and encouraging progress. He believed that through this exchange and sharing, participants would have a deeper understanding of the spirit and important messages of the 2024 National Two Sessions, as well as the significant role of higher education in national development. He also emphasised the rare opportunity for everyone to learn from the experiences of the CPPCC members and contribute to various fields including higher education in Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area, and the country.

CHAN Cheuk Hay, President of HKCT expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to gather 8 CPPCC members from higher education institutions at HKCT, highlighting the importance of coming together to provide advice and suggestions in response to the attention and expectations of the country towards Hong Kong and the education sector.

The speakers shared their true personal experiences of participating in national affairs. They believed that with the implementation of the “Article 23”, Hong Kong would be able to continue playing its role of "backed by the motherland, connecting with the world" in a stable environment, focusing on solving deep-rooted problems in Hong Kong's social and economic development, and promoting Hong Kong's iterative transformation and upgrading. They also pointed out that this year's government work report at the Two Sessions was different from the past, with more data analysis, objective and practical content, and policies that were down-to-earth. They mentioned that the report highlighted Hong Kong's development, reflecting the central government's high regard for Hong Kong, as well as its care and concern for Hong Kong's economic development and regional governance, demonstrating the central government's determination and support for Hong Kong's development under the "one country, two systems" policy. Additionally, the speakers emphasised the concept of “new quality productive forces” and the “three highs”, high technology, high efficiency, and high quality, advocating for unity among Hong Kong universities to contribute to building a strong country in technology, education, and talent.
