HKCT: Empowering Every Elite Athlete

Established in Hong Kong for nearly 80 years, the HKCT Institute of Higher Education (“the Institute” thereafter) is committed to being the ultimate support system for elite athletes, empowering them to achieve parallel success in the dual-track development of “Academics and Athletics”.

Elite Athletes Admission Pathway
To encourage outstanding elite athletes in Hong Kong to commit to training and learning, the Institute has established an "Elite Athletes Admission Pathway". Student-athletes who have represented Hong Kong in regional or international competitions, or who are recommended by designated sports organisations, are eligible for admission through this exclusive channel, ensuring a smooth transition into tertiary education.

Physical Development Excellence Scholarship
To further recognise the achievements of athletes, the Institute has established the "Physical Development Excellence Scholarship". Eligible student-athletes will receive substantial scholarship awards; after deducting government subsidies, students may be granted a full tuition fee waiver.

Flexible Learning Arrangements
To accommodate the specific needs of athletes during competitions and training, the Institute provides highly flexible learning arrangements. This includes appropriate scheduling of classes and supplementary support, ensuring that academic studies and sports can proceed in parallel.

Holistic Physical and Mental Wellbeing Counselling
Regarding the support for athletes' physical and mental health and taking into account the significant time student-athletes must dedicate to training and competition, the Institute provides comprehensive and personalised follow-up and counselling. This assists them in maintaining good physical and mental well-being while balancing their studies and sports commitments.

International Recognition
In 2023, the Institute signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) to collaborate on advancing the professionalisation of Hong Kong’s sports industry. In the same year, the “Hong Kong Centre for Olympic Studies” was established at the HKCT Jockey Club Undergraduate Campus in Ma On Shan. As the only higher education institution in Hong Kong listed in the Academic Olympic Studies and Research Centres in the world, the Institute’s academic standing has received significant international recognition.

Comprehensive Promotion of Sports and Industry-Education Development
In 2025, the Institute formed a strategic partnership with the Sports Association for the Physically Disabled of Hong Kong, China (HKSAPD) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Both parties are dedicated to jointly promoting the development of sports for persons with disabilities and strengthening related education and training, thereby cultivating professionals with the requisite expertise for the sports sector. Nowadays, the Institute has collaborated with over 20 sports organisations and enterprises in both Hong Kong and the Mainland.

HKCT Elite Athletes Shine on the Global Stage

The Institute is dedicated to cultivating a new generation of talent within the sporting arena. Many of our students currently represent the Hong Kong team, consistently achieving outstanding results on the international stage and demonstrating exceptional prowess.
