HKCT students won the silver award in the Personal Finance Ambassador Programme

Computer games can be an effective way to teach students the right financial management concepts. Four HKCT students of Higher Diploma in Computer Studies (Mobile Application and Game Development) ,namely, Yam Ho-man, Lai Ho-yan, Chu Siu-ming and Tam Cheuk-fai, teamed up to participate in The Personal Finance Ambassador Programme 2019/20 co-organized by HKEX Foundation Limited, IFEC  and St. James’ Settlement. They designed computer games to teach students the concepts of financial management. Their games stood out among other college teams and won the silver award.

This year's theme is "e-Payment". Four students were first trained as "Personal Finance Ambassadors" at a day camp. After learning financial management knowledge, they spent more than two months to make the "E-payment" mobile apps and computer games. Through solving the daily life problems encountered by characters, the games publicize the advantages of using electronic payment systems such as "Faster Payment System", QR Code, and promote security awareness such as protecting personal data. Then, a game conference and a booth event day held in the campus to introduce fellow students to information on financial education and understanding of personal finance.

Yam Ho-man, the leader of the team, said that since what they studied were related to design of computer programmes, they chose to design computer games to deliver the key ideas and messages. It was difficult to set all the characters and scenarios indeed but luckily, they managed to overcome the obstacles eventually In fact, the judges appreciated them for choosing a presentation method that was more difficult than that of other groups and more importantly managed to accomplished within a short period of time.

HKCT team stood out among other tertiary teams and entered the final six teams. They attended the Presentation and Award Ceremony on 18th January at the HKEX Connect Hall. They finally won the Excellent Financial Education Project - Silver Award and were awarded a Certificate.

The competition has been held for three years and HKCT students won awards every year. HKCT would like to thank the organiser for the recognition of our students. In the future, we will definitely continue to work hard for better results.
