The inaugural "First Hong Kong Cybersecurity Skills Competition" has come to a triumphant end. Held on April 15th, the competition culminated in a highly successful prize presentation ceremony on April 28th. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the winners who have earned national recognition for their exceptional cybersecurity expertise.  

The trailblazing competition was co-organized by the Hong Kong College of Technology (HKCT) and the Hong Kong Computer Society (HKCS), in a bid to raise public awareness about the importance of cybersecurity and establish benchmarks for the burgeoning cybersecurity industry in Hong Kong.

The prize presentation ceremony was graced by the presence of esteemed guests, including Ms. Siu Ka-yi, Political Assistant to the Secretary for Education, Dr. Rocky Cheng, President of HKCS and Prof. Chan Cheuk-hay, President of HKCT. They were joined by an illustrious panel of professional judges and enthusiastic participants. We express our deepest gratitude to everyone involved for their unwavering support and commitment.  

The competition attracted a wealth of participation from industry practitioners, achieving outstanding results. Encouraged by this success, we plan to hold the event again next year, expanding its reach to encompass Macau and the Greater Bay Area.

1st and 2nd Places
Candidates who won the 1st and 2nd places will be confirmed by the Education Examination Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China, and will be recognized as Network and Information Security Management Engineer (Advanced) and awarded Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Public Security Certificate of Network and Information Security Management (Advanced), with a cash prize of HK$20,000, and employment opportunity.
 
3rd to 5th Places
Candidates who won the 3rd to 5th places will be recognized as Network and Information Security Management Engineer (Senior) of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Network Security Service Capability Evaluation (Advanced) Certificate of the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Public Security according to relevant regulations, with cash award of HK$10,000, and will be recommended for employment.
 
Achieve 60 points or above
Participants who achieve 60 points or above in both theoretical and practical evaluation in the final will be awarded the Certificate of Network and Information Security Management Engineer (Intermediate) issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the Certificate of Network Security Service Capability Evaluation (Intermediate) issued by the Key Laboratory of Information Network Security of the Ministry of Public Security.
  • The competition is divided into two stages: Stage 1 - Qualification Review and Stage 2 – Final;
  • All participants are required to register online through the official website;
  • Selected participants will enter the final which is an offline competition held in Hong Kong, and participants are required to be presence onsite;
  • The final competition will be held in the form of a knowledge competition (theoretical evaluation) and a skill competition (practical evaluation) to determine the top 5 individuals.
  • The competition rules follow the requirements of relevant local laws and regulations of Hong Kong, as well as the professional standards for network and information security issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Security of the People's Republic of China. Fully considering the actual situations of cybersecurity industries and the enterprises in Hong Kong, the competition appropriately adds new knowledge, technologies, skills, equipment and related content. 
  • The competition consists of 2 main parts, theoretical knowledge and skill operation, among which, theoretical knowledge accounsts for 30% and skill operation accounts for 70%.
  • The assessment is divided into three parts: theoretical knowledge, skills and comprehensive review. The assessment of theoretical knowledge is mainly taken through written examinations or electronic examinations, which participants' capacities of mastering the profession and understanding of relevant knowledge will be examined.  The skill assessment is conducted through practical or simulated operations which participants' level of professional skills will be tested. For the assessment of comprehensive review, participants are required to review materials and provide answers for judges.
  • The full marks of the assessments of theoretical knowledge, skills and comprehensive review are all 100 points while the passing mark is 60 points.     
  • The assessment time of theoretical knowledge, skills and comprehensive review shall not be less than 90 minutes, 120 minutes and 20 minutes, respectively. 
  • The theoretical knowledge assessment is conducted in standard classrooms while the skills assessment is conducted in venues with necessary network and cybersecurity equipment, software and hardware, and comprehensive facilities.
