HKCT Participates in “Belt and Road” Vocational Education Forum,

Advocates AI Empowerment and Joint Global Outreach

On December 17, 2024, HKCT Institute of Higher Education and Hong Kong College of Technology (collectively “HKCT”)  took part in the “Hong Kong Regional Vocational Education Service Co-Building ‘Belt and Road’ Vocational Education Forum” organized by the China Vocational Education Association and the Chinese Occupational Education Association of Hong Kong, with Hong Kong Metropolitan University as co-organizer. Distinguished guests included Ms WU Cheng, Deputy Director of the Education and Science Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, along with over 60 speakers from government, business, and academia. Among them was Professor WONG Yuk Shan, GBS, JP, Vice Chairman of the Basic Law Committee of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress. Dr. LIU Yung Chau, Honorary Chairman of the China Vocational Education Association, Vice Chairman of the China Vocational Education Association, Dr. WONG Yaqu Kar, David, GBS, BBS, JP, Chairperson of the Board of Governors of HKCT Institute of Higher Education, and Professor Li Wai Chi, Vice President of HKCT.

Hong Kong’s vocational education is driven by collaboration among government, enterprises, and institutions, with strong internationalization and market-oriented integration of industry and education. As one of the key promoters of local vocational education, Professor Lee Wai-chi was invited as a panel speaker to discuss how Hong Kong’s vocational education can align with the national “Belt and Road” development blueprint alongside representatives from politics, business, and education.

Professor LI remarked: “The last decade was the era of ‘Internet+’; the next will be the era of AI. Leveraging the platform of vocational institutions, we can achieve both connectivity and integration, implementing government policies on building a strong nation in technology, education, and talent.” She also proposed the universal integration of AI knowledge to enhance students’ AI literacy and advocated for institutions and enterprises from both regions to ‘join forces and sail together,’ co-developing an international vocational education and qualification system with Chinese characteristics.

This forum not only showcased HKCT’s forward-looking vision in education but also highlighted its practical strength in advancing the national strategies of “Technology Power, Education Power, and Talent Power.” HKCT will continue to support the Belt and Road Initiative and promote the global outreach of vocational education, providing essential talent for regional development.
