HKCT Flag-raising Team

HKCT Flag-raising Team which is the first student Flag-raising Team (the “Team” hereafter) in self-financing tertiary education sector was established in 2022. With the collaboration with Civil Aid Service Hong Kong, the students who had been shortlisted to be the Team were given training under her Youth Potential Development Scheme (YPDS), not only did they learn the skills and manner to raise national flag, they were also taught the meanings of the flag, the national emblem, and the national anthem. With the goal to promote patriotism, the team currently takes up the role to raise the flag at the campus which shows the solemnity of raising the flag regularly to their peer students at the "i-Opening Class” programme.

Project Sharing and Summary Meeting cum Closing Ceremony of the 2nd HKCT Flag-raising Team

The Associate Vice President, representatives from the Greater Bay Area Homeland Youth Community Foundation, Civil Aid Service, as well as delegates from Shenzhen Polytechnic University and Chiu Chow Association Secondary School were invited to witness the learning achievements of the participants. Specifically, members who had completed the Certificate Programme in Barista, Certificate Programme in New Media Practice, and Flag-raising Instructor Training Course share their profound experiences and acquired skills with the guests and their families. They all shared that they gained joy and learned a lot through the project. Finally, the certificates were presented to every member for recognising their excellent performance in the project.

Flag-raising Instructor Training Course

8 members of Flag-raising team were shortlisted to receive advanced training for enhancing their flag-raising and footdrill techniques. They also learnt the necessary communication and training skills of instructors. After completing the training, the instructors of flag-raising team imparted their flag-raising and footdrill techniques to the Secondary 1 students of uniformed team at Chiu Chow Association Secondary School, boosting their confidence in flag-raising. During the process, the instructor shared their insights of daily campus life, enabling the secondary school students to gain a better understanding of the learning environment of tertiary institution.

Shenzhen Exchange Tour

Participants who visited Shenzhen Polytechnic University engaged in handicraft workshop and interacted with members of the National Flag Guard Team. Not only did it strengthen the connection between the youth on both regions, it also provided them insights into the learning styles in mainland universities, thereby offering an additional pathway for further education. Participants also had a site visit to "All Day Club Café & Bar" in Qianhai, Shenzhen, where they could learn the advantages of starting-up own businesses and understood more on the relevant support which are already available for Hong Kong entrepreneurs in mainland China.

The course was taught by an instructor with extensive media production experience, with a practical and out of the classroom approach to enable the participants to learn a variety of filming techniques and utilize basic equipment to produce professional-quality short films. Additionally, the instructor shared the current industry requirements and the trends of new media development in the Greater Bay Area, encouraging the participants to consider the diverse development across different cities with their personal interests.

The course was taught by professional instructor which covered the varieties of coffee and different techniques. Through the assessments, participants were equipped with the fundamental skills of a barista, which will be beneficial for their future development. The instructor shared the latest updates and development on the mainland market, enabling the participants to gain understanding of relevant information and knowledge of coffee industry from various angles.

The course aimed to introduce the participants on the concept and importance of career planning, to assist them re-evaluating their personal abilities and career interests, let them establish the appropriate career direction. With the sharing of real-life case studies, practical training and assessments, the participants learn the necessary attitudes and knowledge of Life Planning Development Facilitator.

The workshop covered a range of topics, including self-awareness, national security education, and flag-raising & drill techniques taught by instructors from Civil Aid Service. The activities enabled the participants to enhance understanding of the country and strengthen the sense of national identity by kicking starting with self-recognition, knowing more on the national anthem, national flag, and regional flag.

The President, Associate Vice President, and representatives from Greater Bay Area Homeland Youth Community Foundation were invited to the ceremony. Young entrepreneurs from Qianhai, area of Shenzhen in the Greater Bay Area was also invited to share their experiences to enhance their knowledge on both entrepreneurship and the region of the Greater Bay Area.

To celebrate the 26th Anniversary of the Establishment of the HKSAR, HKCT management, teachers and students, and alumni gathered at HKCT Jockey Club Undergraduate Campus in the morning on 1st July, 2023 for the flag-raising ceremony. The ceremony was held at the outdoor venue inside the campus and hosted by the first "HKCT Flag-raising Team". During the ceremony, participants faced the national flag and sang the national anthem solemnly together.

HKCT Flag-raising Team held a graduation ceremony on April 25, and a total of 31 members successfully completed the training. At the graduation ceremony, the flag-raising team members kicked off with foot drill and flag-raising ceremony, and then the members shared their training experience in the past few months.

HKCT Flag-raising Team members and other students formed a 35-people exchange tour to Changsha and Shaoshan in Hunan for 4 days during Easter holiday. They enjoyed their visit in Hunan University and Changsha University and exchange their knowledge on foot drill techniques and training with the local students, visited Lei Feng Police Station, Hunan Broadcasting System, BROAD Group, Former Residence of Mao Zedong, the Yuelu Academy and Longping Rice Museum.

With this exchange tour, HKCT students had the opportunity to explore different Chinese customs, cultures and history which broadened their horizons and enhanced their understanding of the nation as well as the world.

In order to enhance students’ professional knowledge and skills related to media and communication, the certificate programme of Media Production and Practice let students explore shooting and filming industry. With the professional broadcasting and production system, they are educated to operate the equipment for filming and production through hands on practices.

The YPDS training day camp aims to equip students with map reading skills and compass applications. Through learning the principle of mountain searching, students can taste how mountain search and rescue is.

Flag-raising team members exchanged their understanding on the content of the “20th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party” and discuss about youth work in the meeting with the Principal and members of management of the College.

With the professional training by the instructors of the Civil Aid Service, students learned the techniques of footdrill and flag-raising to prepare the flag-raising activities in the future.

The first meeting of the Team has been held to let teammates know each other, the stories behind joining the team and the preparation before the selection, etc. They watched the video recording highlights of "The 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the HKSAR cum HKCT 75th Anniversary - Flag-raising Ceremony" and the subsequent HKCT Flag-raising Team introduction activity together in the meeting.
