HKCT Design and Media Production

Design plays a vital role in today's society. It not only enhances the value of products and services but also improves the quality of life, making it an essential element across all industries. HKCT offers a range of Diploma and Higher Diploma design programmes covering diverse fields, including Visual Communication, Moving Image, and Interior Design, with the aim of nurturing the next generation of design professionals.

Our Higher Diploma programmes are designed to cultivate students' creative thinking, problem-solving skills, and professional expertise, enabling them to excel in the design industry. Diploma programmes provide a solid foundation in design principles, preparing students for progression to Higher Diploma programmes. At HKCT, design programmes emphasise practical application and are assessment-based, with no examinations. Students participate in a variety of design projects and have opportunities for industry internships that may offer up to a maximum of 280 hours, providing valuable experience to launch their design careers.

Higher Diploma Programme

Higher Diploma in Creative Design and Media (Visual Communication)

  • This programme integrates colour design, visual communication, graphic design, branding design, illustration, typography, packaging, editorial design, advertising, interactive media design, etc.
  • Students will learn various professional design software used in the field, such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, 3D Studio Max, etc.
  • It aims to cultivate students' creative thinking, problem-solving skills, and market awareness, enabling them to transform innovative ideas into design solutions that meet commercial needs.

Higher Diploma in Creative Design and Media (Moving Image) 

  • With the aim of developing film and television producers, this programme trains students in the professional skills required for the role.
  • This programme will teach different professional software such as Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Animate, Dreamweaver, etc.
  • The curriculum covers both the theory and practice of digital image production, encompassing pre-production, production, and post-production, from concept development to finished video product. Students learn to manage the entire production process and oversee the quality of the final output.

Higher Diploma in Interior Design

  • This programme focuses on training students’ professional skills and approaches in interior design.
  • It covers professional interior spacing design, computer graphics, material application, smart home, building information modelling, and innovative technology, etc.
  • Students will utilise industry-standard software, such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, 3ds Max, VRay, and BIM.


This programme is subsidised under Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions/Sectors (SSSDP). In the 2025/26 academic year, a subsidy of up to $40,730 per academic year will be provided to each eligible local student admitted to this laboratory-based programme. The first-year tuition fee after subsidy is $17,270.

Diploma Programme

Diploma in Creative Design (Visual Communication)

  • This programme focuses on training of creative productions and digital media design skills. More than 90% of the programme content is art and design and students are not required to study Chinese Language and Mathematics. 
  • Graduates can apply for a $10,000 Internal Student Articulation Scholarship to further study in the Higher Diploma programme.

Diploma in Creative Design (Interior Design)

  • This programme focuses on inspiring and training students to master fundamental drawing, model-making techniques, and creative methodologies. Students can master a variety of industry-standard software.
  • Graduates can apply for a $10,000 Internal Student Articulation Scholarship to further study in the Higher Diploma programme.

Creative Studio
HKCT recognises that creativity thrives in ample space. We provide this studio for students to engage in discussions, brainstorming, and creative pursuits. It is equipped with 3D printers, laser cutting machines, large-scale printing machines, and flexible partition settings. It is open 24 hours and can be divided into individual studios as needed, allowing design students to focus on their graduation projects.

Professional Design Lab

Design Lab is equipped with iMacs and professional software, including the Adobe Creative Suite for animation, graphic design, film production and image processing. In addition, we have 3D Studio Max, AutoCAD, Vray, SketchUp, Unreal and BIM specifically for students on our interior design programme.

Digital Media Studio

Digital Media Studio
This is a high-definition video production and recording studio with a control room. It adopts a tapeless full HD video camera, which can provide high- definition signals for live TV broadcast and rebroadcast through industry- standard HD-SDI that is comparable to local TV stations. Students can engage in diverse programme production practice here, such as talk shows and interviews. They can utilise chroma key technology via the blue or green background for adding special effects in post-production.

Audio Dubbing Room
Audio Dubbing Studio

Dubbing and mixing are common post-production processes in film and television production. This Audio Dubbing Studio, equipped with various mixing and recording equipment, soundproofing room, and industry-standard Audio Pro software, allows students to practice narration, sound mixing and multi-channel recording during their study.

Visual Imaging Studio

Visual Imaging Studio
This studio is equipped with Sony A7S III full-frame mirrorless cameras, boasting ultra-high ISO sensitivity, as well as professional Sony FX6 cinema cameras capable of 4K 120p cinematic shooting. These are complemented by a comprehensive professional sound recording system, wireless microphone sets, and mixers. Professional lighting equipment includes LED fill light sets, softboxes, soft umbrellas, cinematic lighting kits, and a professional background stand (9ft x 4ft), along with a three-axis stabiliser. The studio features a complete lighting control system, ensuring that design programme students can create all types of visual content in the most professional environment.
