Exercise and Fitness Coaching*

The course equips students with the knowledge and skills of exercise science and coaching and strengthens their career-related skills, prepares for further study in sports-related programmes and career development. 
Live Taster Programme

Programme Contents

This programme enables students to understand the basic knowledge in the areas of sports science, fitness and health as well as the fitness testing and assessment through the practice of exercise and fitness skills. Through the integration of learned knowledge and skills, students need to design and implement sports and fitness training activities, which strengthens their job-related skills to prepare for further study in sports-related programmes and career development. 

If students attained “Attained with Distinction (I)” in this ApL course^, it is comparable to Level 3 of the Category A subjects of HKDSE examination; if they attained “Attained with Distinction (II)”, it is comparable to Level 4 of the Category A subjects of HKDSE examination.


Programme Features

  • This programme focuses on practical and applicable based teaching and assessment, majority lessons were taught outside standard classrooms
  • Students can use all professional sports facilities in HKCT, including gym room, dance studio and basketball court, inside or outside class
  • Through a variety of sports and fitness training (including functional training, badminton, basketball, etc.), students can equip themselves with sports basic techniques and coaching skills, plan an appropriate exercise and fitness training activities for different sports
  • Students can play the role a coach to plan, implement and lead fitness training activities, allowing them to utilize the skills and theories learned and acquire practical experience
  • Different visits and extra curricular activities, including sports competition, internship, etc. will be arranged to broaden students' horizons

Graduation Path

Articulation Path

Graduates can articulate to Higher Diploma in Fitness, Coaching and Sports Management or Bachelor of Social Sciences (Hons) in Sports Management with Coaching

Sports coach, fitness instructor, sports event officer, sports executive, recreation and sports facility manager, etc.

* The programme will be renamed from Sports and Fitness Coaching to Exercise and Fitness Coaching in the 2020/21 academic year, subject to the re-accreditation of the programme and its renaming being approved by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications.

^ According to the Education Bureau Circular Memorandum No. 40/2017, applicants of Associate Degree and Higher Diploma programmes are allowed to use up to two Applied Learning (ApL) subjects in the application for entrance requirements. However, ApL Chinese (for non-Chinese speaking students) is not applicable and the existing levels of results, i.e. "Attained" and "Attained with Distinction", will continue to be used.
