Programme Aims

This interior design diploma aims to train talent for the industry. The curriculum closely follows the latest industry developments, teaching drawing, model making, and material application theories and practical knowledge to build a solid foundation. Students will also learn industry-standard software like AutoCAD to ensure their skills meet industry requirements. Graduates can pursue diverse paths in residential and commercial design, as well as emerging fields like cultural creativity or green building.

Students are eligible to apply for student membership with the Hong Kong Interior Design Association (HKIDA), helping them build an industry network.

Programme Contents

The Diploma in Creative Design (Interior Design) focuses on inspiring and training students in basic drawing, model-making techniques, and creative methods. It equips students with professional skills and a solid foundation for diverse creative endeavors in the interior design industry. Through theory and practice, this introductory programme enhances students' understanding of professional interior design knowledge and improves their competitive position in today's creative industries.

  • Software at Industrial Level: The curriculum features AutoCAD – the world's most popular drawing software for architects and interior designers. In addition to AutoCAD, this programme also includes instruction in various professional software that meet interior design industry standards, such as SketchUp, V-Ray, 3ds Max, Unreal, and BIM
  • Career Oriented and No Examinations: The programme is career-oriented which emphasises practical and applied learning. Students are assessed by professional practice and project assignments
  • Membership Recognition: Students are eligible to apply for student membership of Hong Kong Interior Design Association (HKIDA)

Star Teachers
  • Alexander SUEN
    After completing a Bachelor of Interior Architecture with Honours at the University of New South Wales, Alexander spent seven years at a renowned Sydney interior and architecture studio, where he completed numerous award-winning projects. In 2013, Alexander returned to Hong Kong to establish arctitudesign. As of now, he has completed over 100 projects spanning high-end residential, retail, and workplace design.

    Registered architects and interior designer in Hong Kong with over 30 years of industrial experience. Patrick is the founder and creative director of SIM-PLEX Design Studio. The style of his design is simple, multi-functional, and artistic imagination oriented. Patrick is also a lecturer of interior design for tertiary students.

Graduation Path
  • Graduates can apply for a $10,000 Internal Student Articulation Scholarship to further study in the Higher Diploma in Interior Design, followed by a bachelor degree in related disciplines.
  • Graduates can also find employment in various interior design and creative industries.
  • This interior design diploma provides a pathway to higher diploma. In 2023, 100% of interior design diploma graduates articulated to HKCT Higher Diploma in Interior Design.
Internship

The programme offers a wide range of practical experiences,opportunities and participation in relevant life projects. Students may also have practicum opportunities in interior design firms or relevant organisations.

  • Completion of Secondary 6; or
  • Completion of Secondary 5 with 1 year post Secondary 5 study or working experience; or
  • Mature student (aged 21 or above); or

Creative Studio

Creative Studio
HKCT recognises that creativity thrives in ample space. We provide this studio for students to engage in discussions, brainstorming, and creative pursuits. It is equipped with 3D printers, laser cutting machines, large-scale printing machines, and flexible partition settings. It is open 24 hours and can be divided into individual studios as needed, allowing interior design diploma students to focus on their graduation projects.

Profession Design Lab
Professional Design Lab

Design Lab is equipped with iMacs and professional software, including the Adobe Creative Suite for animation, graphic design, film production and image processing. In addition, we have AutoCAD, 3D Studio Max, Vray, SketchUp, Unreal and BIM specifically for students on our interior design programme.
