I did not take ICT (Information and Communication Technology) in the DSE and do not know how to code at all. Can I study this AI Higher Diploma?
Absolutely. The programme is designed for students starting from 'zero', and studying ICT is not a prerequisite for admission.
The programme is taught from beginner to advanced levels and does not assume you are already a programming expert. In addition to professional AI knowledge, students will first master the fundamentals of Computer Science, such as Network Fundamentals, Computer Programming, Computer Architecture and Organisation, and Python, to build a solid foundation for you.
What are the minimum entry requirements for the AI Higher Diploma? Can I apply if I do not meet them?
The entry threshold for the AI Higher Diploma is not high and is suitable for various applicants:
- Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (DSE) candidates: Level 2 or above in five subjects (including English Language and Chinese Language);
- Graduates of the Diploma Yi Jin / Diploma of Applied Education (DAE): Successfully completed the programme;
- Holders of equivalent qualifications;
- Mature applicants aged 21 or above with one year of work experience.
If you do not meet the above academic requirements, you may first enrol in the Diploma of Applied Education (DAE) programme and then progress to this AI Higher Diploma.
Can I progress to a Bachelor's degree after completing the AI Higher Diploma?
Yes. One of the advantages of this programme is the provision of a '2+2 Articulation' pathway.
Graduates of the 'Higher Diploma in Applied Artificial Intelligence' can articulate 100% to the Year 3 Entry of the 'Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Computer Science and AI Engineering', allowing students to complete both the Higher Diploma and the Bachelor's degree in 4 years.
Furthermore, this AI Higher Diploma is recognised at Level 4 of the Qualifications Framework (QF). Graduates may also choose to apply for various AI-related or interdisciplinary Bachelor's degree programmes at other institutions.
If I do not wish to further my studies, what are the career prospects if I start working directly after completing this AI Higher Diploma?
AI career paths are extensive. Beyond technology companies, AI technology has permeated various industries, including FinTech, healthcare, retail, logistics and transport, and digital marketing. The industry is also in dire need of frontline technical personnel responsible for execution, testing, and maintenance.
Upon graduation, you can take up positions such as AI Tester, Assistant IT Engineer, and Assistant AI Trainer. If you choose to pursue further studies and obtain relevant work experience and certifications, you will have the opportunity to be promoted to roles such as Systems Engineer or Project Manager in the future.
