Principal's Welcome Speech

Welcome Speech

Prof CHAN Cheuk Hay

Dear students and parents,

Welcome everyone to join HKCT and become part of us. HKCT is a self-financed higher educational institution dedicated to promoting "Vocational and Professional Education and Training" (VPET). We offer full-time and part-time programmes leading to master’s degree, bachelor’s degrees, higher diplomas, Diploma of Applied Education (DAE), and diplomas, as well as Applied Learning (ApL) programmes for secondary school students. Our programmes cover in Sports, Cybersecurity, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), Applied Artificial Intelligence (AI), Social Work, Disciplined Services, Early Childhood Education, Tourism and Hospitality, Arts, Design and Media, Culinary, Media, Public Relations and Languages, Information Technology and Beauty, etc.

To ensure that students enjoy a high-quality campus life, HKCT Ma On Shan “Twin Campuses”, HKCT Jockey Club Undergraduate Campus and HKCT Jockey Club Ma On Shan Campus, as well as the Mong Kok East Campus are well-equipped with teaching facilities, such as the Security Operations Centre, Cyber Range & Practice Centre, Language Centre, Fitness Room, K Square (Early Childhood Education Centre), etc. All of you will have the opportunity to use these facilities in the future. If you want to have a look now, feel free to visit our college’s "Teaching Facilities" webpage to watch related videos and photos.

Apart from the facilities, our colleagues from the Department of Student Development provide counseling services and organise various activities every year to broaden students’ horizons. They also help students to plan their career development and discover their leadership skills, and care about your mental and emotional well-being. I hope all of you can integrate in the school life quickly and also will have personal growth and gain achievements beyond academics. You may learn more from our webpage “Student Services”.

HKCT is an institution that is serious in our vision and mission, so we have high expectations for our students. We often said, "a school is a miniature of society". Therefore, we integrate the societal demands and expectations into our college to cultivate students with proper values and the ability in application. With this personal growth and development, I hope you can make meaningful contributions to the society in the future. Since 2022, HKCT has launched the "i-Opening Class” programme and formed the first student Flag-raising Team among self-financing tertiary institutions. Through regular flag-raising ceremonies and activities on global, national, and local affairs, students are encouraged to understand and practice patriotism, serve the community, and contribute to the country. Over the past three years, the programme has featured lectures, exchanges, and film sharing to deepen students’ understanding and recognition of patriotism through diverse experiences. Team members also take part in important ceremonies like the Anniversary of Hong Kong's Reunification with the Motherland and the National Day, fostering respect for national honor. For more details, please visit the “Latest News” section and I look forward to your active participation from school starts.

In addition to provide knowledge, HKCT places a great emphasis on shaping students' mentality and values. The learning mode in secondary school and tertiary education is completely different. I hope all students can set yourselves free from preconceived notions and learn to be tolerant, listen humbly, and understand diverse opinions and viewpoints. Furthermore, we encourage students to learn to take responsibility for their words and actions, as this is the way to cultivate the unique Graduate Attributes of HKCT: "Conscientiousness", "Collaboration", "Perseverance", and "Innovation". I invite you to explore the meanings of these attributes on the "Graduate Attributes" webpage.

Autumn is the season of harvest, I hope all of you will have a fulfilling learning journey in HKCT. I also look forward to meeting and chatting with you in the campus. Wishing you all a joyful new academic year!
